Imports from January to May 2011 exceeded last year's figures by 50%

According to the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, from the beginning of 2011 to May inclusive, a record growth in imports was registered, which exceeded the last year's volume for the same period by 50%! The volume of imports this year is already 114 billion dollars.

Compared with last year's figures for May, the average prices of imported goods have increased by 12.2%, and the total volume of imported goods has increased by 26.5%. An interesting fact is that the growth was demonstrated by the volume of imports from both the neighboring countries (an increase of 48%), and from far abroad (48.8%).

Over the period, the export indicator also showed dynamics, but experts note only an increase in average export prices - by about 35.5%, while the indicators of the physical volume of exports remained virtually the same. In general, exports rose for 5 months of 2011 by 28.5%.
