Maximum guarantee limit in Ukraine for TIR carnets is now 60 thousand eurosThe TIR risk management system was again in the spotlight of the State Customs Service of Ukraine and the Association of International Road Carriers. This time the improvement of the system's functioning refers to the maximum limit of guarantee on TIR carnets on the territory of Customs of Ukraine. According to the decision of the TIR system insurers and International Road Transport Union (IRU), from July 1, 2010, the maximum limit of guarantee on TIR carnets will be increased up to sixty thousand Euro.

The Association of International Road Carriers is responsible to the State Customs Service for TIR Carnets, issued on the territory of Ukraine to IRU members – guarantee associations, in case the maximum guarantee limit does not exceed sixty thousand euros at the exchange rate in national currency. In case of detecting breaches of TIR procedure at the customs office the customs authorities can claim not more than 60 000 EUR, if the TIR carnet was accepted for registration after July 1, 2010.

If the TIR carnet is registered by Ukrainian customs authorities before the above date (before 00:00 GMT), the Association will be liable for violations in the amount, set before it, equivalent to fifty thousand U.S. dollars in local currency.
